World Solidarity Day

One weekend every August, We The Free teams around the world take to the streets together for the animals.

What it is

A day of unity

World Solidarity Day is our flagship event. On one weekend in early August, activists in cities across the world run demonstrations for the animals at the same time, a wave of peaceful, powerful public presence rolling right around the globe.

Each demonstration runs for four to six hours, and most are street outreach: the public stops, watches, and has real conversations about animals with the people who brought them there.

It's unity for the animals, as an activist community, and in solidarity with the world.

How the weekend works

Two days, one movement

Connection Day

The day before, teams come together for community, food and skills: a relaxed day that makes the next one stronger.

The demonstrations

On the day itself, teams run four to six hour demonstrations in their cities, many of them using the 3 Minute Movie Challenge.

Wherever there's a team

Solidarity Day isn't limited to a few big cities. Any We The Free team can run a demonstration and be part of it.

How last year looked

Birmingham

Our UK demonstration brought a 28ft (8.5m) truck screen into the city centre, with the sound streamed through wireless silent-disco headphones. Hundreds of people stopped to watch, to listen, and to talk about animals.

Glasgow and Edinburgh

Glasgow took Argyle Street with a 3 Minute Movie Challenge street outreach. The day before, Scotland's vegans met in Edinburgh's Meadows for a Connection Day of rounders, tennis, a picnic and games.

“When we are unbreakable as a team, we are unbeatable as a movement.”
