James has been vegan for 8 years and an activist for 7 years. In that time, James has taken part in street advocacy with many organizations and grassroots teams, marches, vigils, disruptions, pressure campaigns, single issue campaigns, as well as investigations inside farms and animal rescue & rehoming efforts.
For over 10 years, James worked exclusively for Charities in the Social Care sector, most recently as an Operations Manager responsible for the care of people with Learning Disabilities & Autism across multiple cities, and successfully leading a team of 4 managers and 115 front-line care staff through the height of the pandemic. This role included responsibility for quality & compliance, and the management of a multi-million dollar annual budget.
James loves volunteering at vegan animal sanctuaries when he gets the opportunity, as a way to recharge his batteries, and his personal favourite form of activism is street outreach because of its potential to create change and as a common entrypoint into all other forms of activism for tens of thousands of volunteers.
Now, as a Founder and Executive Director of We The Free he guides the mission, vision, fundraising, and strategy for the organization.
I am so fortunate to be surrounded by the most amazing people.
Working for We The Free is such an honor and a privilege - both because of the amazing and impactful work we achieve, and because of the inspirational activists I get to work alongside.
I love that we have built a team culture where we can challenge each other and have difficult conversations when needed, but because we have put in the work to develop team bonds, and we can approach those conversations with compassion and empathy - they aren't that difficult after all.
